There Are Multiple Ways to See if You Have a Warrant
Video Transcribed: Hi, this is Stuart Ericson, Wagoner lawyer. Today’s question is, how do I find out if there’s a warrant out for my arrest?
So people sometimes know they’ve been involved in an incident, they don’t know what’s happening, and they’ve not been contacted yet, but they know there might be a report out there. And do I have a bench warrant for my arrest? So here’s how you do it and it’s not always foolproof, but you could go to oscn.net, that’s oklahomasupremecourtnetwork.net and look up the county, look up your name and then you can see what’s on there.
Now again, that’s only going to show if there’s a filed case against you. Another one is ODCR, Oklahoma District Court records, so that’s odcr.com which covers some other counties. Again, you would just type in your name in the county and it’ll show if criminal information has been filed against you and if a bench warrant has been issued for your arrest. And also you should be able to determine as well. A lot of times there’s the preset bond, so you would know what the bond is too.
So once you’re picked up, you’ll know what the bond amount is to get you out. And again, what you would do in that situation if you’re wanting to turn yourself in, is to reach out to a bail bonds person, and then they would help you to turn yourself in on that bond. And they would help you do it the quickest because they know when to take you in, get you booked in and booked out as quickly as you can. And then of course, upon leaving that process, you have a court date where you go to court and have an attorney hired and all of that.
There are other ways to find out warrants. Sometimes the sheriff’s departments and counties, you can show that. Again, you’d look up your name, and county. Sometimes cities will have it as well. The city of Tulsa for example has a website and you can always look that up. So those are the basic ways. There’s no way to really tell if there’s a federal warrant out for your arrest. Those are usually, those are sealed, so you’re not going to be able to find that out.
So it’s a scary time when you think that there might be a warrant out for your arrest. And again, as we talked about in an earlier video how does a case get charged? There’s not going to be a warrant out for your arrest perhaps for quite some time, because maybe the investigation is still going on. Maybe the investigation is done, they’re still doing the report. Maybe the investigation report is done, and it’s been sent to the DA’s office, but maybe it’s sitting at the DA’s office for a while before they look at it and review it.
So there’s not going to be a warrant out for your arrest until that is done. So sometimes there are delays and it can be nerve-wracking and a stressful time. But those are the general ways to find out if you have a warrant out for your arrest.
