Violent Crime Offenses Involve Force or Threat of Force
Video Transcribed: What is a violent crime in the state of Oklahoma? I am Wagoner Attorney Stuart Ericson. Violent crimes are listed in Oklahoma law called statutes in Title 57, Section 571.
And there’s a whole list of crimes that are deemed violent. Some of them obviously are very clear that everybody would know, first-degree murder, shooting with intent to kill, robbery, rape, those sorts of crimes. Others on the list are not so obvious, like extortion, obtaining signatures by extortion, and others like that.
The effect of being convicted of a violent crime in Oklahoma is DOC, or the Department of Corrections, our prison system, and the credits that you can earn while serving a sentence.
It can make a prison sentence longer than a nonviolent crime. If you have any questions about violent crimes in Oklahoma, contact me at wagnerlawyer.com. I am Stuart Ericson, the Wagoner Lawyer.
